 BE ORGANIZED

You have heard it before:  The early bird gets the worm!  Not only should you be one of the first at a sale, you need to be ready for all the sales that day.

The first thing you need to do is invest in a newspaper or better yet, your daily newspaper on-line.  There are always a few that might not be on line but they are in the paper, so keep both in mind when looking for sales.  On-line the sales are easy.

Here is what you do (or should I say what my hubby does, because he is much better at it than me):

We cut and paste all the sales into WORD to get the format right. From there if you know how to do a spread sheet, you can go nuts. You can cut and paste the entire ad on the spread sheet, and go by town, time, city, or sort by theme, for example,

Church sales are the best sales, so they can be at the top of your list with a few other sales that are near by.

Maybe you are into getting children’s clothing or toys. Then you are in yard sale heaven. Most sales have them. Some ads even let you know the size of clothing they are selling.

We try hard to skip sales with kido’s stuff. We just don’t need any little tykes items so we make a column that is titled (kids STUFF-skip this one).

Do your cut and paste and spreadsheets the night before, and if sorted by town you can go right from one to the other.

Secondly, you should get a GPS in the car  which can really save time.

Our good friends go out separately to their favorite sales.  One day they were pulled off to the side of the road. We pulled up beside them to see if they were ok. YEP, they just had to refold the newspaper and find a sale close so they did not waste gas. We flipped up our spread sheet with  town, sale, city, time the sale starts, what the sale offers, and showed it to them. They just could not believe how organized we were.

Of course you don’t have to do a spread sheet, you can make up your own method.

One of our neighboring town’s newspaper  has great ads for yard sales. You click on the small box to the right of the sale, and when you print, it will only print the sales that you clicked on. Our town has not done this yet, so we do our version and that is cut and paste and organize.

That is the secret.  There are so many of us out there looking for great bargains and wishing we could find the perfect thing to wear, or to decorate with, or to sell and make big bucks, that you have to be organized and know where to go and where to go” next!

Its fun to go alone to a sale, but we find it more fun to be with each other. Since we sell yard sale items, we do not dilly-dally around, We make it fun but we also make it quick to move onto the next great find.  Two minds are better than one and two sets of eyes can sometimes pickup on something missed by the other!
