Are We Having Fun
Yet! We
have so much fun doing and going to yard sales. We decided to do what one
of our good friends did. We made up business cards saying we will help you
with your yard or estate sale. This is one way to make friends, find the
bargains first, make some extra money, and get a good reputation as a
seller. You even have the
possibility of making this a part or full time job. It takes time and some
of the best sales to have are ones that are held inside a home. This
happens when some one is moving and they just do not have the time with
all the rushing around to get rid of the stuff they can not take. This also happens when a person dies
and the family can not do it all. You can come in and set up an estate
sale or tag sale. Make
sure you know your prices and what is worth. Do not try to sell things too
expensive. If you do, you will be stuck with the items at the sales end.
You won’t make any money for the family nor will you make a percentage for
doing this job. BUT, if you
are selling items that look to be antique, make sure you do your homework.
Look it up on the computer, or Ebay, or go to a local antique store and
ask them. If
you have ever watched the Antique Road Show, you will know that there are
those out there that sells
items worth a small fortune for next to nothing and then brings it to the
Road Show and says, “I only paid a few dollars for this”, they in return
find out the item is worth thousands. Oh the heartbreak of it
all! Another
thing to remember, if you are having a yard or estate sale for another
person tell them not to throw out anything just because they think it’s
junk. Ask them to leave the tossing to the experts. One persons junk is
another person’s treasure. You can even sell old towels and wash &
dish cloths! (Cheap) but men
love them for cleaning cars, and moms love them for cleaning up the house
or the kids after a sloppy day outside. The quarters and dimes and dollars
add up. Old
magazines. If there are only a few, you can check them out, but the best
find is really old ones from late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The more you
find of the same kind, but different dates, the more they are
worth. Old
patterns, they also sell very well and are in
demand. Woman’s
handkerchiefs in good condition are great sellers on eBay. As are old bottles of perfume,
even half empty one. There are collectors out there that collect just
about everything. The old saying used to be “If in doubt, toss it out”,
but that motto is long gone and replaced with a new motto, |
